Awesome Ways to Relax Today!

You need to relax today. Your bills are piling up. Email notifications are driving you crazy. You just spilled your latte all over your new shirt and freshly cleaned car seats. It’s time to take a step back and breath. You may not think you have time to relax. In fact, thinking about finding time to relax makes you tense up even more! There are ways you can help release tension, breath easier, and improve your mood that can take as little as five minutes. If you can master some of these, you can be the calm at the center of any storm.

Try a green tea

Trade out one of your daily coffees for a green tea. Too much coffee can make you jittery and agitated. Green tea contains L-Theanine, which is a chemical that helps reduce anger. Each sip will sooth your agitation and help you gain a more peaceful outlook on your daily tasks.

Sweeten your day with honey

Honey is a magical food. It is an anti inflammatory, natural moisturizer, and antibiotic. A spoonful of honey will reduce inflammation in your brain and fight your anxiety and depression.

Fight stress with a crunch

Eating a crunchy snack always makes me feel good. Studies show that adults crave foods that crunch when they are stressed. Try munching on celery, a crisp apple, or trail mix. This will not only help your anxiety but keep your energy up throughout the day.

Grab a piece of gum

Chewing gum is a quick and easy way to feel more relaxed. After a few minutes you will feel less anxious and lower your cortisol levels. Gum is cheap and easy to have stashed just about anywhere you need it. You can have a slice within reach anywhere you go.

Meditate

You don’t need to go anywhere special to get a few minutes of quiet. All you need to do is close your eyes and focus on your breathing. It’s easiest if you can find a quiet spot. As you get better at concentrating on your breath you’ll be able to ignore outside distractions. Doing this twice a day will help you conquer any anxiety and depression holding you back!

Be aware of your breathing

This is the best way to relax yourself in a situation you can’t get out of. When you feel yourself getting stressed out, check in on your breath. You can lower your blood pressure and heart rate by taking long, deep breaths. You will be able to keep anger at bay, and stay more relaxed in the moment.

Try a counting exercise

Our minds are better at thinking clearly after we force them to get space from the problem. Try counting to ten and back again when your mind is running away from you. This can help you regain control of your thoughts and lower anxiety levels. Once you can get relaxed your problem may be a lot easier to put in perspective.

Visualize your dreams

Think about something that would make your day a lot better. It can be anything and doesn’t have to be big. It could be as simple as finding something you lost, or a friend surprising you with your favorite meal. This is called creative visualization and instantly makes you feel happier.

Try a hand massage

This is especially good for typists. We can hold a lot of tension in the muscles of our hands. By massaging this tension away, we can calm our nerves and relax muscles throughout our bodies.

Get a full body massage

If you have the time a full body massage can make a world of difference. If you don’t have the time a great massage chair can help you get relaxed in the comfort of your own home.

Organize your space

Cutting down the clutter in spaces you often use doesn’t only make the space cleaner. It can also limit distraction and make you feel more comfortable. You can find ways to hide and store items you don’t use often and keep what you need in sight and reach.

Get moving!

Find a way to get some exercise that will be fun and relaxing. It could be a quick walk, playing with a pet, or busting a few moves to your favorite tunes. This time can help you collect your thoughts and have some fun along the way!
